Gaming in the UK is now governed by the Gambling Act 2005. This extensive new legislation swept aside a great deal of previous gaming law, including the old 1968 Gaming Act and the 1985 extension which originally allowed the National Bingo Game.
A new body sponsored by the DCMS – The Gambling Commission – replaced the Gaming Board for Great Britain in 2005. Apart from the National Lottery and Spread Betting, the Gambling Commission licences and regulates all forms of gambling in the UK, to meet the Government’s three key aims:
• Keeping crime out of gambling
• Ensuring gambling is conducted in a fair and open way
• Protecting children and vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling
Manufacturers like ECM must now be licensed by the Gambling Commission, and our products must comply with their various Technical Standards and requirements.
ECM achieved licensed status prior to the new Gambling Act taking effect from September 2007. Our licence number is OL-1740..
