Technology Centre

ECM's Technology Centre is staffed by a dedicated R&D team, who between them have a vast experience of many different areas of expertise. From digital electronics to complex audio systems, bingo controllers to casino systems, we have a specialist for each aspect of our business.

Project teams have at their disposal a vast array of expertise from colleagues, an extensive Technical Library, and the latest design aids and knowledge bases. A major capital investment programme ensures that engineers have access to the latest technology. Most ECM equipment is based around micro-controllers, and leading edge in-circuit emulation and debugging equipment is available to take advantage of the newest of these chips.

All our PCB design work is done in-house: concept, schematic, component layout and creation of artwork. Powerful computers make the task straightforward though not simple - a far cry from the early days when PCB artwork was created using clear film and black tape, and any change quite literally required scissors and glue!

An important part of modern R&D is to ensure that the various European and World EMC and Safety standards are built-in to the product. To this end, we invested heavily in our own dedicated Pre-Compliance Laboratory, equipped with a screened room, measurement equipment and an open-field test site.

This enables us to develop a product to a very high level of confidence that it will pass the very stringent EMC tests. When we are happy with the product, it is submitted to a recognised test house for formal approval - only then can the product be given the familiar "CE" mark.
